    About this piece

Meet the 12″ Olive Wood Spurtle — a long, narrow, hand-carved kitchen utensil shaped from sustainably sourced Mediterranean olive wood on the Greek island of Lesvos. The slim, tapered shape is built to stir thick mixtures, mix bread dough and porridge, scrape the sides of pots, and reach all the way to the bottom of tall jars without smashing or splashing. Smooth-sanded and finished with our care balm, it's safe for non-stick cookware and gentle on every pan. Olive wood is naturally dense, water-resistant, and beautifully grained — every spurtle carries its own swirl of honey, amber, and chocolate tones, so no two are alike. Each piece is carved by a refugee artisan rebuilding their life through fair, steady work. Buying one helps fund a livelihood, not just a sale.

    The story

This spurtle began as a branch of a wild olive tree on the island of Lesvos — the same island where, a few years ago, our makers arrived by boat with little more than the clothes on their backs. Today they spend their days in a small workshop, carving olive wood into utensils sold around the world. Every piece is signed by the hand that made it and traceable back to its maker by QR code. When you cook with this spurtle, you're holding a small piece of that story — Greek olive groves, refugee craftsmanship, and the slow, deliberate work of rebuilding a life one piece at a time.

    • I would give this 10 stars if I could. I have bought several other brands of wood cooking utensils and this one is the best. Most are way too thick, lacking the proper curve, coated with gosh knows what, and split later on. Now it is too early to tell about splitting but this one is actually designed to use as a spatula for normal everyday use. Well done. I may have found my Christmas presents this year.

    • Wonderful craftsmanship and perfect shape for stirring the sourdough starter

    • I gave this as a gift to a friend who loves to cook. It can be used on metal or nonstick pans. I like the flat end to stir thick soups or stews and reach to the bottom of the pot. It was also very attractive

    • Excellent multi purpose kitchen tool. Works great for stirring all manner of things and does well at mixing bread dough by hand!

Hand wash only, with mild soap and warm water — never soak or place in the dishwasher. Towel dry immediately and let it air dry fully before storing. Every 1–2 months (or whenever the wood looks dry), rub a thin coat of food-safe mineral oil or olive oil or care balm into the spurtle with a soft cloth, let it absorb overnight, then wipe off any excess. With this simple ritual, your spurtle will stay smooth, water-resistant, and beautiful for decades.

Each piece is carved one at a time from a single block of olive wood, so grain pattern, color and shape will vary slightly. That's part of what makes yours one of a kind.
