    About this piece

Meet the Ethiopian Custom 12″ Serving Spoon — a one-of-a-kind, hand-carved kitchen utensil shaped from sustainably sourced Mediterranean olive wood on the Greek island of Lesvos and hand-engraved with traditional Ethiopian artwork. The deep, wide bowl scoops hearty stews, grains, and saucy pastas in one confident motion, while the long, balanced handle keeps your knuckles clear of steam and splatter. Smooth-sanded and finished with food-safe oil, it glides across non-stick cookware without scratching. The engraved Amharic lettering reads "God's Love" — a cherished principle in Ethiopian culture that celebrates harmony and togetherness. Hand-engraved by Elshaddai, an artisan from Ethiopia, this is a functional piece of art that carries his heritage into your kitchen. Please note: this is a unique piece and will not be reproduced — once it's gone, it's gone.

    The story

This spoon was carved on the Greek island of Lesvos and then hand-engraved by Elshaddai, an Ethiopian artisan who arrived on the island as a refugee. Instead of waiting in a camp, he spends his days in a small workshop turning olive wood into utensils signed by his own hand. The Amharic engraving — "God's Love" — is more than decoration. It's a piece of his homeland and his faith carried into your kitchen, etched into wood from a Greek olive tree. When you cook with this spoon, you're holding the meeting point of two cultures and one story of resilience — Ethiopian heritage, Greek olive groves, and the quiet, deliberate work of rebuilding a life one piece at a time.

    Frequently asked

Hand wash only, with mild soap and warm water — never soak or place in the dishwasher. Towel dry immediately and let it air dry fully before storing. Every 1–2 months (or whenever the wood looks dry), rub a thin coat of food-safe mineral oil or olive oil or care balm into the spoon with a soft cloth, let it absorb overnight, then wipe off any excess. With this simple ritual, your spoon will stay smooth, water-resistant, and beautiful for decades.

Each piece is carved one at a time from a single block of olive wood, so grain pattern, color and shape will vary slightly. That's part of what makes yours one of a kind.
