Client Gifts: Ideas, Budgets and Etiquette

What to send a client, what to spend, and how to brand it without turning the gift into an advertisement — using hand-carved olive wood pieces from our corporate gifting program.

What a client gift has to do

A client gift is not a thank-you note and it is not marketing. It has one job: to be a physical reminder, in a place the client actually lives, that working with you was a good decision. That rules out anything consumed in an afternoon and anything that only makes sense at a desk.

It also has to be easy to accept. A useful handmade object at a sensible price is welcome in almost any gift policy; an expensive luxury item can put a client in an awkward position.

    Gift etiquette worth getting right

    • Check the policy. Corporate, government and healthcare clients often cap what a person may accept. Ask before you send.
    • Send to the home, not the lobby. A kitchen gift belongs in a kitchen, and it avoids being opened in a meeting.
    • Keep branding quiet. A small engraved mark plus a card carries more weight than a logo across the handle.
    • Skip alcohol and food by default. Both run into dietary, religious and policy issues you cannot see from outside.
    • Avoid the December pile-up. A gift in March is remembered; a gift in the holiday stack is one of thirty.

Why olive wood works as a client gift

Olive wood is dense and tight-grained, so a piece survives daily use for decades instead of splitting or staining. Each one is carved by hand from a different branch by refugee artisans on Lesvos earning fair wages, restoring dignity and rebuilding lives, which gives the gift a story your client can repeat — and gives you an easy reason to send it.

    Client gifting, answered

What are good corporate gift ideas for clients?
Pick something the client will use at home rather than at the office, and keep your branding subtle. Hand-carved kitchen pieces work because they are useful, obviously not mass-produced, and easy to give without implying obligation.
How much should I spend on a client gift?
$15 to $35 covers most annual client thank-yous, and $75 or more suits key accounts and closings. Check your client's own gift policy first — many corporations and public agencies cap what an employee may accept.
Is there a limit on client gift value?
US businesses can generally deduct business gifts only up to a per-recipient annual limit set by the IRS, and many client organizations set their own acceptance caps. Confirm the current figures with your accountant and, where it matters, with the client's policy.
Should a client gift have my logo on it?
A small engraved mark on the handle is welcome; a gift dominated by your logo reads as advertising. Your logo, business name, a date or a short statement all work — one artwork across the order or set per person, with a 50-piece minimum per design — and a handwritten card carries the personal note.
When should I send client gifts?
Off-peak sending stands out — a gift at a project close, a renewal or an anniversary gets more attention than one that arrives with everyone else's in December. For holiday gifting, order by early October.
Can you ship directly to each client?
Yes. Send a recipient spreadsheet and we package, address and ship each gift individually, with your card enclosed.
